In 1952, the FIA announced that Grand Prix races counting towards the World Championship of Drivers would be run to Formula 2 specification rather than to Formula 1, after the withdrawal of Alfa Romeo from the sport. Ferrari were the only team to have a car specifically designed for the new formula. the Ferrari 500 F2.

The car was powered by a in line four cylinder engine which was mounted behind the front axle, improving weight distribution. Alberto Ascari used the car to win his first world championship, winning all but one race with the simple 500. The following season, Ascari won his second world championship, and Ferrari won all but the final race, which was won by Juan Manuel Fangio, back in racing after an accident which had damaged his neck.

Ascari won 9 straight races in the 500, a world championship record which still stands today. The 500 won all but one race it was entered in, making it the second most statistically successful car in the history of the FIA world championship, after the McLaren MP4/4 which failed to win only one of its 16 races.

This legendary car virtually won everything there was to win during the early fifties hence its nickname “the Super-Ferrari.” With the return of the Mercedes and the rise of the Maserati in the 1954 season, Ferrari was faced with new chalenges. As a result, its winning streak came to a temporary end. One year later – in 1955, Alberto Ascari died of a tragic accident in Monza, and was mourned by the whole Italian nation. This 1:18 all metal model of the Ferrari 500 F2 is highly detailed and a stunning example of CMC's artistry and a sincere tribute to the legendary Ferrari 500 F2, the world championship car of 1953. Hand assembled from 1,463 parts, the car is exactly detailed and features the craftmanship and precision that make CMC miniatures so special in the hearts of collectors. Just take a look under the engine hood or remove the rear part to assure yourself! By the way, you can save your’re time if you want to know how many rivets are included on the petrol and oi ltanks. CMC used 526 single rivets to rebuild the tanks true to the original.
