The Sopwith Camel was a British World War I single-seat biplane fighter introduced on the Western Front in 1917. It had a combination of a short-coupled fuselage, heavy, powerful rotary engine and concentrated fire from twin synchronized machine guns. A metal fairing over the gun breeches created a "hump" that led to the name Camel. The Camel, of which around 5,490 were built, was credited with shooting down 1,294 enemy aircraft, more than any other Allied fighter in the First World War. This was achieved because although the planes were deliberately difficult to fly, their inherent instability made them extremely agile in combat.

This model has been faithfully reproduced in kiln dried Mahogany. Each is carved, joined and sanded by hand. The deep, rich finish that distinguishes these models from all others is created by the application of up to 35 coats of enamel. The artist then hand paints all of the details onto each model resulting in a final product is a beautiful authentic wooden aircraft.
