The Sopwith Camel was a British World War I single-seat biplane fighter introduced on the Western Front in 1917. It had a combination of a short-coupled fuselage, heavy, powerful rotary engine and concentrated fire from twin synchronized machine guns. A metal fairing over the gun breeches created a "hump" that led to the name Camel. The Camel, of which around 5,490 were built, was credited with shooting down 1,294 enemy aircraft, more than any other Allied fighter in the First World War. This was achieved because although the planes were deliberately difficult to fly, their inherent instability made them extremely agile in combat.

This model of the Sopwith Camel is made from wood, and covered in stretched silk, just like the original. The seat is made from leather and the engine cover has detailed rivets.
