Globes have been a feature of many homes since the first world maps were created. Identifying trade routes, continents and Oceans our globe is a replica of the Vaugondy classic globe. Father, Gilles Robert de Vaugondy, and son, Didier Robert de Vaugondy, were the leading mapmakers in France during the 1700s. Didier was appointed geographer to Louis XV in 1760 and published globes of various sizes, the biggest with a diameter of 2.6m. This globe features a replica of their 1745 globe.

The stand is made from solid wood with a French finish. The meridian ring is solid bronze. The globe is made from 12 hand applied printed gores glued onto a papier mache sphere finished in plaster of Paris, to replicate the original construction.

Please note that the stand is delivered in two sections and some light assembly is required.
