Hawker Hurricane with Open Canopy

This Hawker Hurricane Mk1 R4118 UP-W was originally flown by No 605 Squadron RAF (County of Warwick) and completed 40 Combat Sorties and 5 Victories. It is the only currently airworthy Hurricane which actually flew during the Battle of Britain.

The Hawker Hurricane was a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was designed and predominantly built by Hawker Aircraft Ltd for the Royal Air Force (RAF). Although largely overshadowed by the Supermarine Spitfire, the aircraft became renowned during the Battle of Britain, accounting for 60% of the RAF's air victories in the battle, and served in all the major theatres of the Second World War.

This model has been faithfully reproduced in kiln dried Mahogany. Each is carved, joined and sanded by hand. The deep, rich finish that distinguishes these models from all others is created by the application of up to 35 coats of enamel. The artist then hand paints all of the intricate details onto each model resulting in a final product which is a beautiful authentic wooden aircraft. The model features an open and fully detailed cockpit. The plane is mounted on a metal and mahogany plinth which includes details of the plane on the base.
